The quality of Café de Costa Rica is a result of the country’s social, economic and environmental development. Costa Rica has a solid legal framework that has boosted the product, and all laws and regulations have contributed to the development of institutions.
Café de Costa Rica is supported by Law 2762, which regulates the coffee sector through the Costa Rica Coffee Institute, by strengthening research, transferring technology and information, and promoting Costa Rican coffee in the world.
The Political Constitution of Costa Rica clearly establishes in Art. 50 that: “The Government shall seek the greatest welfare of inhabitants, by organizing and stimulating production and the most appropriate distribution of wealth. Every person has the right to a healthy and ecologically-balanced environment. Therefore, every person has the right to report any act infringing this right and to claim compensation for any damage caused. The Government shall guarantee, defend and preserve said right. Laws shall determine all responsibilities and the corresponding sanctions.” (Constitution of Costa Rica, 1949).
