Due to the region’s climate, coffee beans are large and homogeneous. Colors range from deep green to bluish green. It has an intense cocoa (chocolate) flavor, with very pleasant and intense aromatic notes and a noble acidity, thanks to a perfect balance between sweetness and body.
This is one of the oldest regions of Costa Rica, treasuring a colonial temple, in use since 1743. Orosi is located in a valley 40 kilometers from San José, the region’s capital. The region’s coffee tradition dates back over 100 years, and therefore the community has developed around this economic activity.
The highest parts of the Orosi mountains are covered with forests protected by private biological reserves and national parks, and thus the area preserves its weather conditions and remains unaltered by human development.
Orosi and the surrounding communities (Cachí and Paraíso) show a peculiarity in terms of climate: they are influenced both from the Atlantic and the Pacific slopes. The rainy season concentrates between May and November, with an average of 210 days, which is why it is considered a rainy region. The dry season goes from December to April.
Orosi produces coffee in farms at 1,000 to 1,400 meters above sea level: Cachí at 1,000 to 1,300 meters above sea level, and Paraíso at 1,200 to 1,350 meters above sea level, in highly fertile soils of volcanic origin.
